High School Credits, Graduation Options, Attendance, & More - Virtual Title 1 Engagement Meeting

🐺 Planning for High School Starts Now!

Thank you to the families who joined us for our recent Title I Family Engagement Meeting! We shared important information to help our Wolfpack families understand how the choices students make today can impact their opportunities in high school and beyond.

During the meeting, families learned about high school credits students can begin earning while at West Wortham, diploma requirements and endorsement options, and the important connection between attendance and earning course credit. Students must not only earn a passing grade in a high school credit course—they must also meet attendance requirements in order to receive the credit. Regular attendance matters throughout a student's education; even missing two days per month can lead to chronic absenteeism.

We were also excited to introduce families to the opportunities available through the Harrison County Career & Technical Center. Students may apply during 9th or 10th grade for programs that provide real-world, hands-on learning in areas such as Automotive Technology, Health Science, Engineering, Educator Prep, Carpentry & Construction, Precision Machining, Business, Marketing & Finance, and Welding. Attendance, discipline, and grades are considered as part of the selection process, making the habits students develop now even more important.

Our goal is to help families plan with the end in mind. Middle school is an important part of preparing students for graduation, college, career, and whatever path they choose for their future.
